Naturopathic Medicine is a complete system of primary healthcare based on the model that finding the cause of disease, disease prevention, and treating the whole human being, are more important than simply reacting to, and suppressing, symptoms.  

Many treatment modalities can be used to achieves these goals, even pharmaceuticals, but only when applied in the right way.  No substance or therapy is therefore inherently “naturopathic”, not even typical alternative therapies like herbal or homeopathic medicine.  It’s how something is used that makes it a naturopathic therapy.

Increasingly, however, people are also coming to naturopaths for much more than just primary care.  After the conventional system has failed individuals with chronic and debilitating health conditions, they seek out alternatives.  Finding the real cause of the issues can take some digging, and naturopathic doctors take the time to listen to your complete health history.  In this way, naturopaths sometimes go beyond what your general practitioner is capable of doing and work with you right beside your endocrinologists, oncologist, immunologists and others specialists.
